Live in red and you will never feel blue – Tomato Bravo

Live in red and you will never feel blue

Today we like to present one of our favorite fruits; the tomato. Yes a tomato is actually a fruit and not a vegetable. As it has seeds and grows from a flowering plant, it is classified as a fruit. The question is now; why are we so keen on talking about tomatoes? They are just one of the most interesting and nutritive fruits out there. Probably everybody reading this blog knows what a tomato is and has tasted it at least once in their life. And if you are not a real fan of this particular fruit, believe me, you will become one after reading this.
Tomatoes come in all forms and sorts, there are over 10,000 varieties, yes ten thousand. This abundance of varieties comes in all types of colors and shapes, some of the colors include pink, purple, black, green, white and yellow. Actually the first tomatoes in Europe where the yellow varieties, The Italian name for tomato is Pomodoro, and means ‘golden apple’. Talking about names, we would also like to mention that the scientific name for tomato is Lycopersicon what means ‘wolf peach.’

As we are in the heat of the midsummer I also consider it is worth mentioning the skin protecting feature that tomatoes contribute whilst under the sun. A certain antioxidant called lycopene that is found in tomatoes protect your skin from UV rays that cause sunburns. Enjoy a sunburn-free and relaxing summer by eating loads of these delish health bombs and getting soaked with vitamin D that we like to call ‘the feel good vitamin’. Keep in mind that tomatoes do not replace a sunblock, they help protection but don’t prevent sunburns. Apart from the sun protecting antioxidant tomatoes are also filled with features that are good for your heart, bones, hair, eyes and probably the rest of your body.

Still not a fan? Well, then try a juice Bloody Mary and a Tomato Bravo biscuit under the sun on this lovely Friday afternoon (or which day it might be for you) and think about it.
